Friday Writing Exercise

Fiction is made-up, while nonfiction is largely truth. Right? Well, wrong. There is nothing stopping you from being creative in nonfiction. Similarly, there is nothing stopping you writing about a made-up event and weaving in elements from the real world.

With this in mind, today’s exercise is quite simple. Take an event from your life and dress it up a little. It might be a graduation, a birthday party, or what you ate for dinner last night. Alternatively, write a fictitious story but throw in a character from the real world, or add a historical event. Perhaps your character has a chance encounter with a famous person, or watches a historical event unfold on the television. The opportunities are endless.
